Shutter and lens noise ??
Is it louder than any other DSLR?
Why is our beloved K10D so loud compared to other brands
A compact or evf will be much quieter.
that's why I have Both!
my g5 and Pro one work quiety. Use in good light, and will focus in no light, my slrs work (if you know what you're doing)for everything!
I was looking for the thread labelled what you want from Pentax on future models but am buggered if I can find it.
Pete
I hear you about the operating noise though, when handling a powered up K10D in a shop a few weeks ago I was quite taken aback by the AF motor alone (though the mirror slap didnt sound any worse than other SLRs I've handled).
Compared to my aging EOS 300 with kit lens it is surprisingly noisy, I felt
Makes me wonder why if they could make one that quiet so long ago why can't they do it now?
In saying that I do a lot of wildlife photography and only once have I found the shutter distracted the wildlife. But Pete's right in churches, musems (where photography is allowed) the noise of the mirror is distracting
My real problem with it is that my wife takes video at the same time, when I edit the movie at home all I can hear is click, click, click AHHH!

With often 50 - 100 shutter clicks in a 20 min video its a real pain in the A&*e
Has anybody ever tried building a home made buffer for the mirror?

Unless i misunderstand - do you mean something other than physically dampening the mirror action?
I know what you mean though...Gerri works fairly close to the wedding party...I try to use my g5 and pro one as i work near the video cams, and keep my video cams far back in the room, with wireless lave mics and rode video mics....
the lavs don't pick up the clicks so much.
I'll give Lave's a shot
at the very least, mic the groom...best to mic everybody, or tap into the "House" system if you can.

By far a lot quieter....and sounds like a "real" camera (ie film)...
Not sure why they didn't keep the shutter the same in newer models.
From the *istDs onwards its got louder? Wierd
K10 (brilliant Digital)
MZ-S (brilliant film camera, still use it for B&W)
.. we were speaking on the telephone by the way.......
compared it with my K10, that and the GX-10 were the same....
But then I fired off a few frames on my Z-1p...that puts things into perspective And yes, the *ist D is more subtle than the K10D

What I would like is a quieter shutter (mirror) as when I did my shots in the church during the ceremony I was around 30 feet from the alter and was very conscious of the shutter slapping away. Why is our beloved K10D so loud compared to other brands.
Lens are noisy to but when the new DA's come that will eliminate that problem at least for those who can afford them
On a serious note why is the shutter so load, surely not good for discreet shots or wildlife ??? Any thoughts folks
Pete
