Hi, i bought my pentax k5 around 5months ago, brand new, and the firmware in it was ver: 1.01. I know this is an early version of the firmware, so my question is,- should i update it, to the latest version?- if so why. I have had no problems with my camera thus far (touch wood),i'm just wondering if it would benefit at all from a firmware update, or should i leave well alone? any advice? thanks, - mary.

Pentax's own advice is to do updates. I understand they often include small tweaks and fixes not mentioned in the readme file.

Rumour is a 1.11 to 1.12 update soon as (again) posted too early on the UK site.

I heard from my reliable source that the new update will fix
the spirit level problem once and for all ......
by making the picture format circular

Edit: Might as well shove this in here as well.

There's a new version of PK-Tether out

It also seems that debug mode can be activated on the
K-5

That's the exact problem with the spirit level...... It isn't
Level I mean

Not really a big problem, just test yours on something level
and if it's level with say 2 bars showing, just use 2 bars
when you want to level the camera

That`s good to know. I thought I had one leg longer than the other!!! Level on the K5`s about as much use as a chocolate teapot.

Yes, I agree with the rest here. Update your firmware to the latest. v1.11 as v1.12 is not ready as yet

Leave well alone, just my opinion.

If its not broke donít try to fix it.

Take care.

You will always find a broad selection of views and advice on the Internet.

Only you can decide whether to follow the manufacturers' recommendation (they're the people who designed and built the camera, and who know what needs fixing, and how to do it), or alternatively to follow the recommendation of somebody you have never met or heard of, and who knows very little about the camera at all.

It's very easy to do, and provided you don't try it with an almost fully discharged battery, it is EXTREMELY unlikely that anything will go wrong.

Too much "spirit" in it.

Currently: Unless you have the very expensive GPS hot shoe addon, then you should update to 1.03 IMO to fix or improve any low light AF Confirmation errors.
