If it's a PK-a fit, it should mount. Are you lining up the red dot on the lens mount with the red dot on the camera body?

Not that it will have any bearing on fit but that lens will not be a wide angle on your camera. I wonder if the 'r' refers to the Ricoh variation of the Pentax K mount?

Compare the mount with that of another lens that you have. One of the problems might be the flange that protects the aperture lever. It might be deeper and/or larger; a small surgery can solve that problem.
Does it go on, but not turn the whole way?
An image of the mount might help the more knowledgeable people here (not me ) to indicate what is wrong

Yeah it is all lined up ok, just doesn't seem to fit all the way in.

Ahh I see, on initial inspection it looked the same but the little bit of plastic around the aperture is slightly deeper... nail file?... lol

The longer flange around the aperture is present on some independent KA or Kr lenses (often they had both contacts). I think this flange is only a problem on cameras that have the two gold contacts about 5 o'clock on the mount. I first had this problem on my Z-1 (they fitted all my previous film bodies).
If it is a Kr with the Ricoh pin, this link shows how to remove the pin (takes five minutes). Some are held in by a sprung plate rather than the screw mentioned on this site.

On full frame, 35mm is considered the beginning of wide angle range and 28mm is considered wide angle. 24mm is the turning point between wide angle and ultra wide angle (still considered being wide).
Due to the smaller sensor, the equivalent numbers on APSc (roughly) are 24, 18 and 16.
