should i sell my 31mm?

If it helps, i used to use that 31 with a stepdown ring to 49mm and used my 49mm polarizer on it (like you all my other lenses used 49mm filters at the time). Since the 31mm was built as a full frame lens, stepping down to 49mm resulted in no vignetting.
I recently acquired a K-135 f/2.5 which is the same way. 58mm filter size, but steps down to 49mm no problem.
don't sell the 31 just because it uses 58mm filters! I feel you on the size though, that was my issue with it...

didn't take me much
i always assumed i'd get vignetting. the size aspect is one i can live with for the superb optics. a 49mm stepdown ring is on order.
but still thinking about that 77mm now. perhaps my 35mm and 70mm can fund one of those for me...

oh, and thanks again santi for the lens—it's been taking very good care of me.

You said it, it's your finest lens. Contemplating giving it up because you prefer a 49mm filter thread is a bit like trading an Aston Martin for a Nissan Qashqai because it's got more cup holders, IMO.

Just how many filters do you use on digital?

Well put. And I agree.

of all the lenses i should want to sell, it's arguably my finest one: my 31/1.8.
the reason? i've settled on a 49mm filter set (goes with the da limiteds and the 135/3.5). i've also settled on small lenses.
i still own my 35/2.8, which is a bit smaller (materially so, since i do keep lenses in my pocket).
the 70mm i own is a pain to use with filters, because of the hood, so i'm thinking of trading it up for the 77mm. the stop of speed would be nice too...
so: sell the 31mm and 70mm, and buy the 77mm. good idea, or not?
hoping to get some input into this, since i'm genuinely in two minds.
