I must admit it's never even occured to me. I've swapped cards between cameras, different makes of camera, any possible combination and never had a problem over several years. In fact I don't think I've ever bothered formatting the card in the camera in the first place. But now you've told me this ............

That's OK.... There are very rigid requirements for digital camera file storage and if you read the K-5 Specification....I must admit it's never even occured to me. File Formats : Still: RAW (PEF, DNG), JPG (EXIF 2.21), DCF 2.0 compliant, DPOF, PIM III Movie (compression): AVI (Motion JPG)
DCF 2.0 compliant means it complies with Design rule for Camera File system and can therefore be freely interchanged amongst other DCF compliant equipment without the need to re-format although it's not a problem re-formating a card in the camera. Deleting files from the card and re-using is also OK.
DCF image root directory
The directory with the name "DCIM" directly under the root directory
is called DCF image root directory. DCIM stands for
"Digital Camera IMages".
The card might have other directories such as VOICE MISC etc for
use by other equipment.
Even the filenames are covered by DCF
The directory name is 8 characters in length.
The first three characters are a number between "100" and "999"
Numbers "000" through "099" shall not be used.
This number is referred to as the directory
number
The rest of the name after the directory number shall be five characters.

The basic format of the card complies with MS DOS.

I don't mind working at f2.8, but this is a great idea.

For anybody verging on the brink of buying a Pentax Q there are some really good price drops at SRS, such as £99.00 for a spare body and the 5 - 15mm zoom at £129.00. Or buy them both together for £199.00

I hope this is allowed on this forum, but it is great news though I suspect they won't last long. Probably the last chance to buy the original Q.
All I need now is for the Q - K mount adapter's price to drop, I really need that shutter.
