Sorry to pee on your bonfire Roger but they do look a little soft to me, have you calibrated your lens

Thanks Steve. I think it's me rather than the lens!
It was all a bit quick, actually. I was driving along & there he was. Stop the car, fire-up the camera & start shooting. Auto-focus because I didn't know how tolerant of me he would be!
It was pretty dull light, but the last thing I was thinking was, " Hey, don't bother taking any snaps, it's only 100ISO, it's 500mm, it's only 1/100th, handheld!!!"
I was so pleased to get anything in the 20secs, odd, he was there, to be honest!
So.
I certainly do not consider any of your comments to be "peeing on my bonfire", since a)., I haven't built one with these images (although may think I should...) & b)., I asked for C&C, which is always welcome.

Thanks, Betty, for your saying no.1 is your favourite.
Please let me know the source of your amusement, & in what respect you find my images "subtle"?
They are just a straight record of what I saw!

Thanks again for the interest shown,

Roger.

In saying subtle, I was referring to Steve's comment of "peeing on my bonfire" Mate.

Hi Roger

Whilst the shutter speed and being handlheld etc wil have had an effect I find that any shots in this kind of light over a distance have a certain softness to them no matter what you do.

Decent efforts goven the circumstances

Just a secondary thought........

How, in your opinion, do you think this shot could have been improved by the use of a K5, instead of a K7, everything else being equal, prevailing light, etc.............
