Shooting with fog

What a great weekend. Believe it or not I have been dreaming for the last 2 weeks of shooting an isolated tree in the fog, and this weeekend I went to a farmhouse in Umbria to sit by the fire and relax with friends and to my surprise an early Saturday walk with the dog presented itself with the thickest fog I'd ever seen! To be uploaded soon, i took a few hundred shots of isolated pencil pines and olive trees emersed in the fog, which I can't wait to photoshop. Being the first time under such conditions, I used my trusty manfrotto, DA 16-50mm and Z pro ND grad filter, prolonging the shutter speed at iso 100 as long as i could. On the lcd they look great.

Any suggestions for people out there who have shot in the fog in the past that have picked up some interesting techniques along the way?

Only that it's easy to destroy the atmosphere of the shots with over processing in Photoshop, so be subtle!

The longer the shutterspeed the less fog you get so I would not use the anything to prolong the shutterspeed when you want to shoot fog.

here you go link

Sandy, I've found that site useful a lot of times and often it's also quite good written. At least it's good understandable when you don't have a lot of knowledge about photography.

This is another site that I like link

Lots of very useful information on those sites Stefan (second one suffers from quite a few HTML-bugs and/or broken links or something?!)

Thanks for sharing.

The last one is from a photographer so I can forgive that his html skills aren't that good.
At least the tutorial pages them self work properly.

great links there guys. Very useful information here. I think that the techniques I used (which wasn't much, kept it simple) achieved reasonably good effects. Being thick, depth of field was hard to achieve, however. I'll upload the photos soon, so people can have a look. Thanks once again everyone for your feedback.

This is one of my favourite fog shots. Of course taken in England...

It's not perfect but I still like it...

As John mentioned, it's easy to overdo the PP.

Here's one of the shots I took on that weekend. I think it came out ok. Here I used my pentax K10, DA16-50mm lens, manfrotto tripod, ND8 cokin z pro filter.
