Sharing lenses

Well I am working on the Oh for my K10d. His idea is that I get the K10D and he takes over the *ist DS. But that would mean sharing lenses with him, as we can't afford to duplicate lenses.
Do any of you have two Pentaxes that you share with your partner? Do you share lenses? If so does it lead to problems?
I'm a bit reluctant as I am afraid he will become a lens hog. He is already a bit of a photo opportunity hog - grabbing the best place and taking loads of photos leaving me with little or no chance or inclination to take any - he did it on safari and I know he will do it on future trips.
Any ideas? Or do I just hang on to the Ds for a while longer and leave him to his Canon S2?

Canon? Oh, dear. Your OH is right. Give him the DS. If you find you are fighting over one particular lens, the solution is clear. Buy another. Once he is a Pentax user, you'll find it much easier to get approval for those essential inessentials.

Now that the price is right Gwyn for the K10D, it's more affordable so I guess each having a standard lens should be ok....but telephoto or specialist lenses.....I'm not so sure...

My GF wanted me to move over to Canon (she has shedload of L glass) and so we could share lenses... I am stubborn and in the 15 months together I have bought

FA 50 1.4, FA 28, FA 24-90, Sigma EX 100-300, K10D and AF360 FGZ....

I am trying to save for a K10D for my partner, she really could use a better camera. Don't have problems sharing lenses as long as we collect a few more before sharing commences.

I now have four, LBA set in in Skipton where I found an SMC-A 28f2.8. Lens cap was broken though Still added it to my collection. I like A lenses.

I recently had the same dilemma at our house when my wife wanted to upgrade from her OLD (but surprisingly capable) Minolta Z-1 (3mp 10x zoom). We briefly contemplated the Canon S5 and the Lumix FZ50 as a replacement (I can just imagine the groans and eye rolling) but ultimately she chose the K100D because of the live viewfinder and mostly the manual focus superiority over the other two. Her choice will undoubtedly compliment my *ist Ds and compatible accessories but I am still not convinced she is the type for an SLR.

She does like the lightweight 50-200mm DA and has taken it over for our regular nature outings so I am now relegated to the 50mm f1.7 FA, 18-55mm DA, or my 100mm M Macro. That has changed the way I look for images and I enjoy concentrating mainly on macro now. I also find that losing my zoom lens to her has not only stretched my creativity, but we also have many fewer duplicated shots.

George made an excellent point when he said "you'll find it much easier to get approval for those essential inessentials" and I am looking forward to the release of the Pentax 70-300mm DA and I am positive it will easily be an "essential" when it eventually does come out (next year or ???).

I also find this new arrangement great as we each have become the other's bearer of a back-up body with two different lenses always at the ready. The fact is, we rarely change lenses at all, we just trade outfits. That works just as great as our long successful system of each of us having identical TV remote controls. Imagining how that TV watching system would work at your house Gwyn may give you the answer to your dilemma.
Indeed, some of our contributors actually take pictures just for the fun of it. You may doubt me, but it is true. - G

Thanks for the advice guys - I'm still thinking about it. I can see he'll want the Bigma all the time but I like the idea of him being more amenable to new goodies once he has a Pentax - he'll be wanting his own K10D next
I will hide all his guitars for the evening and try to have a talk about it tonight.

photo*ist - never have a problem with the remote in our house - he rarely watches TV unless it's sport, and then the remote stays by him until he falls asleep. Strangely the golf/rugby/tennis/footie/whatever then turns into another pogramme or the off button

you all know Gerri and I share.....sometimes it really boils down to learning to like the stuff she don't like.....

my kids grumble about my flavour of chips: "Dad, why do you buy those...they're gross?"
"Did you eat them all on me?"
"Ewwwww! No way!"
"I Don't know why I buy them...I just do"

Gerri don't like beer: "Don, why did you buy that? It's gross..." you get the idea....

So I grab the ds2, knowing nobody's messed up the settings, and left the batteries uncharged, and memory card half full.
So I grab the manual lenses knowing there's no dirty specs or prints on them...

Divorce Costs alot of lenses, and so what if I did buy her that 50mm macro I always wanted for her birthday, last month.....

Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.
