Fair point, but why would we buy a Minolta battery to put in a Pentax camera? A slightly strange thing to do, especially if the spec is not the same? Although batteries may fit, they may not fit exactly, they may have different ratings, it may or may not be significant.

On the other hand, there would not seem to be much argument against putting a Samsung GX10 battery in a Pentax K10D, or vice-versa should we wish to.

Sorry to keep on about this subject but you seem to come accross as being very anti third parties, But then you seem to suggest that it's safe to use a Samsung GX10 Battery in the K10D. (Y/N.)

Well that's not really a case of third parties - they are identical, and both are reputable, 'original' manufacturers. There are probably very few (maybe no) other cases where you can swap between manufacturers like that.

I can see why people are wary of unbranded stuff, but I personally can't justify £50 on a battery, so I will most likely get a cheapie one if I need it, and accept it may not last as long (both life expectancy and no. of shots per charge)
Very much an amateur.

The reason is that I learned my lesson the hard way a long time ago, and reached the conclusion that it was cheaper in the long run to get the correct product for the purpose. There is also a pleasure in everything fitting and operating flawlessly both functionally and also in terms of aesthetics. I have bought lots of third party items and they have all been less satisfactory than the original manufacturer's stuff.

As regards the Samsung battery, we know the GX10 is a Pentax K10D, so the parts and accessories are one and the same. It is not often that we know this.

But just to clarify the point, I'm not pro-Pentax for the sake of it. I have actually used virtually every camera marque and have consluded that the most efficient for me has been the Pentax.

I have also used just about every type of camera ever made, deliberately so as an exercise. I was determined that I would be able to pick up anything from any era and be able to use it, be it a Kodak Folder, a TLR, a rangefinder Contax, a Nikon F5 or even a Pentax or anything else. This particular project has been very useful for lots of different camera club talks.
Best regards, John

Well Said John.
Lets hope we can now put this issue to rest.
