Shadow on close image

Received my pentax 50mm 1.7 A lens today and have noticed a shadow on some pics in the top left corner.Wondered if this was due to my closeness with the subject since the pic from slightly further back was ok.

Try taking that last picture again with the camera upside down. If it's still on the upper LHS (ie bottom RHS for the sofa the right way up) then it's the lens.
However, looking at then shot - it looks like the shallow DoF and the inside curve of the sofa.

You could also try taking against an evenly lit wall or floor.

Thanks for the reply Matt.

I had taken several pics from different angles and (close)distances and all had the shadow.Took some more pics tonight all from close in and no shadow so lens looks fine.
