Sensor cleaning?

I just tried a cleaning kit from http://stores.ebay.co.uk/digipads and it has worked very well removing a lot of greasy spots from my NEW K-5 sensor
at £9.99 it is a good buy.

Just ordered mine and looks promising

We don't have a lot of dust in the everyday atmosphere, as we live in a village, but the room had not been vacuumed for over a year! I left it alone for a day after vacuuming, for residual disturbed dust to settle, then a careful wipe with a damp rag over all accessible surfaces, before taking the lens off, etc.

I just had a similar problem with a new K3. It had a small mark on sensor and tried to blow away but I managed to put more stuff in there (used an old blower that was probably perished inside!) I must say SRS did a sterling job and actually got Pentax Service Centre to do it under warranty. (I had blown dust into the pentaprism area)

I was also surprised when I went to Jessops in Milton Keynes and picked up a new blower that they offer clean while you wait (at a premium price or cheaper if you want to wait a day..) all prices certainly where affordable considering the sensitive sensor situation.

It's so easy to make matters worse whilst trying to clean a sensor. I change lenses as little as possible. The Tamron 17-50 on my K5, for example, has never been removed, which for some defeats the object of a DSLR.

For the other cameras, I hold my breath, change the lens (which I always clean first with a blower) with the camera held upside down and just live with the few marks on the sensors. You know where they are and it only takes seconds to clone them out.

Really it's fr me an accepted part of digital photography and a lot simpler to deal with than spotting black and white prints in the bad old days.

Dirt gets into compacts too, sucked in through the zoom lens, I guess. I've ruined a Ricoh R7 and a little Pentax because, of course, dust on a tiny sensor is much more noticeable and can never be removed economically.
