selling or keeping the kit lens...?

Hello,

Just bought a brandnew K-x with kit lens (DAL), i am not really planning on using it (have a 16-45mm and planning to get a 18-250mm soon), it's still wrapped in the box at the moment. Knowing that it doesn't retail for much I was wondering if it was better to sell it and get a bit of cash now or keep it for the day i'll want to sell the Kx...

any advice/tips?

From my experience selling cameras and lenses together won't get you any more money than the higher priced item on its own. For example, take a camera worth £50 and a lens worth £100, bundle them together and you'll get... about £100.

With that in mind, plus the fact you're not going to use it, plus it's not likely to ever be a rare collectible - sell it now is my advice.

Or do like I do and use it as a wet-weather sacrificial lens. Although it's not technically waterproof I've used mine in quite heavy rain with no ill-effects. If it does break then you've not lost much but you've saved your 16-45 from taking any damage - better than a UV filter for protection!

Sell now and get money while you can. Could put the money toward something you would use.

Sell it and get the DA 55-300 rather than the 18-250.

For a kit lens? Its not worth it for the effort. Just bock it up in the box and leave it until you sell the camera.

You won't get much for it and if you come to sell the camera, it will be more attractive with a lens than without. Hefty's point is valid and even more so with expensive lenses, but the kit lens?

Thanks for the advice of the 55-300mm but i'd rather have only one lens (to avoid changing lenses all the time and having dust inside the body!)

Keep it, because there might be some days when you want to travel with a smaller and lighter lens, or a less valuable one in hostile conditions.

Also, when it comes to selling the camera, it does make the camera more attractive to a certain sort of buyer to have a lens included. (I generally sell lenses separately, but not always the 18-55).
