Selling legal software to someone else ?

Could someone please explain to me, if it is possible to sell a legal serial number( SilkyPix DS3) to someone else without bringing the new owner in trouble with matters as not useble as the SN was registrated to my name? Thanks in advance,

As long as the serial number is only owned by one person and used on one computer then there shouldn't be a problem. If you were to sell it on but also keep using the software yourself then there would be a licensing problem.

So if i would sell the SN from my version of SPDS and the buyer would download the newest version he could use my serial and get all the upgrades. Even if that serial is linked and registated to my e-mail adres and name etc... :

That's unlikely - the serial number/registration process ties the software to one machine, as far as I can tell.

When I wanted to sort out the camera club's CD2 registration I just phoned up Adobe and talked it through with them.

They were very helpful and there was no difficulty.

So why not phone up the software company and explain what you want to do and see what they say?

Now i am confused. Does your remark mean it is not possible?

I know that from Adobe, John. I informed myself about that a time ago.
But i can't find that info on the website of SPDS. And as the selling changed hands not so long ago, to another company, it is a bit cofusing were to go, or search.

I have one ordinary license for Silkypix. I have installed two copies of the software at home on two different computers - and they both work fine. However, I tried installing a copy on a computer while I was in Canada (to use myself), using my serial number, and it did not work. It reported some problem about licensing.

Future updates wouldn't be a problem if/once the original software was installed OK. Updates install themselves on top of your previous installation without any re-registering.

I don't think legally your license is transferable.

The question I would like to ask is why do you want to part with your Silkypix license?

That's the easy part Although i can see the Picture quality from the files SPDS is producing, are a bit better(but not to much) as LR, I just can't handle the UI. I can't get used to it. Even after a half year tryout.
And the way LR flawelessly operates with PS, isn't it making better for SPDS. But that isn't so strange, I guess if you have worked so long with PS, as i did. LR has offcourse very much resemblance with the UI of PS.
So to conclude.....Great quality (picturewise) but the UI kills it for me

PS, i guess i have to inform their company how the licence thing can be solved, before hitting it in the for sale department, over here.

I've just downloaded it to try again, I didn't like the UI either. But another thing I don't like is that it makes folders inside the active (image) folder, something the new version of Capture One (v.4) also does. Previous versions store them all in one folder out of the way, which I much prefer.

That's one of the many reasons iI like LR so much. One Library catalogue which can be placed and stored at any place you like. Even at seperate hard drives.

Yes, I believe it's impossible. I'm surprised that iceblinker managed to get it loaded on two computers, as I couldn't load it on my laptop just now (as an experiment), it said that it was already registered.

It appears that once the licence is registered, it will be prevented from re-registration by the company database. I can find nothing about licence transfer either.

I found out on the Adobe site how it works with their products. You have to download a form which has to be filled in by the buyer and the seller, stating change of ownership. You also get a special id number which is used for tranferring the software legally to the new owner. That is obviously because the software is linked to your user id( e-mail adress)

It's quite possible that software licensed for use in UK may not be licensed for use elsewhere in the world.
