Self timer/shutter control affects quality?

I have the k-7,took some group shots,manually and some useing a wireless shutter control.
The manually taken shots looked so much better!Why is this?Is the shutter control lacking in some way? Thanks.

Is it something to do with the focus? was camera set to chooses its own focus on both occasions. if the camera is set to auto select then it may choose a different point especially if the camera is on a tripod and lower than handheld height.

Try similar shots using manual focus.

Better still post one of each on here so we can get a better idea of the problem.

I agree that this setting might be the cause. I have a K7 and a remote control unit but have had no problems with the remote control - I love the fact we can shoot from in front or behind the camera!

But the camera has to be set to either : 1) focus first (with shutter button or manually) and shoot with one press of the remote, or 2) first press of the remote to focus then a 2nd press to take the shot. This is controlled by Custom Setting menu item 16. The default is condition 1) as above. So you might not be actually focusing on the subject at all (as fatspider was wondering above).

I have found it easier to operate as per condition 2) - then you can press the remote to prefocus without having to touch the camera, and fine tune with manual if available on the lense. Live View would make sense for this situation also, as your preview is bigger and the mirror will be up before shooting.

Also, don't forget to put the eyepiece cover on the viewfinder before using the remote. Light coming in the viewfinder can really confuse the lightmeter, thus causing poor exposure. This would also degrade the picture quality.

Good thought Yves, I never considered that, although I've never really had a problem with it.
And it's quicker to take a meter reading then set the camera to manual than mess about with the eyepiece cover

That's the way I usually do it for single shots, but in the case of multiple shots, it's easier and faster with the eyepiece cover.

I used the 12 second timer. Notification was short, but the photo came out ok.I will refer back to this page[as it seems more likely to happen again!]
