It is an illusion that photos are made with the camera… they are made with the eye, heart and head. Henri Cartier-Bresson
Lots of film bodies, a couple of digital ones, too many lenses (mainly older glass) and a Horseman LE 5x4.

The bird is a Silver Gull found in most parts of Oz, usualy near the sea, but have seen them 300-400 miles inland,if you want to find one it is murpheys law, if you have a picnic near the beach you will be invaded by them.
It is soft I tried to sharpen in Raw Therapee, but the photo is under- exposed,Ifound it very hard to get it right, the bird is moving making it hard to keep in focus, exposure is different, will keep trying, when sharpening it had a white outline which is believe over sharpened.
Ps You are welcome to the halve duck but it is the back part and you will have to supply the plumb sauce.

Monty,
The water drops on the duck are very sharp, so perhaps just a 'stop up' to increase your depth of field?
Birds in flight are really challenging to do well - and easier with bright sunlight so you can use a fast shutter speed too.
