Thanks Christopher, CMW, yes I am at the email stages. Will keep you posted.
I have had the lens for about 4 years, since new, light use, looks mint still, I look after my stuff, it's certainly not been thrashed or badly handled, so I would expect better.
Cheers as well Gary, Cabstar, my thoughts exactly. With the price we pay, surely these DA* lenses should last us years.

Very interesting discussion.I've read that sometimes you can 'bump start' the SDM after a lay-off by manually operating the screw drive with a screw driver or similar.
Doesn't help, but I periodically operate my SDM lenses on-camera even though I don't intend using them to prevent this problem.

Little jewellers type cross-head screwdriver. Just engage the screwdriver in the screw drive and twist!JohnX wrote:

OR, if you have an older Pentax that doesn't support SDM but is AF, just mount the lens and focus

Under SOGA and EU updates there is now six years to bring claims against retailers under satisfactory quality. I think any reasonable person would expect an expensive DA* lens to last up to 6 years.
