Pentax M 75-150 f4 First Impressions

I picked one of these up quite cheaply, just to see what it could do. The reason it's on my radar is that it's relatively fast at f4, and is said to be sharp wide open.

So it would be possible to use this for concerts (low light) and portrait photogaphy (subject isolation). As shooting wide open at is appropriate for these sorts of photography, the lens can be used in Av mode wide open, avoiding the need to remember to press that green button for stop down metering.

Anyway here are my test shots. It is definitely sharp enough wide open. There is much less coloured bokeh fringing and CA than my 135mm f2.5. All these shots are at f4 in Av mode.

Hi my friend, you are really lucky finding such an old lens & it is as I remember super sharp! Wow Pentax could really make lenses in those days. Best of luck with it Ian

You should ....

This is a *snap* from a recent holiday, taken with a K200D. An 18 x 12 print of this looks outstandingly sharp.

Clachtoll in Sutherland. It's a very nice place and extremely photogenic. I can't keep away.

Wow! That looks like an extremely good lens. I wish you both had not posted these pics as I might now want one of these lenses! I'm going to wait as I've just bought a SMC Takumar 200mm f4 (not arrived yet) and I'm hoping that will be super-sharp too!

I was given one of these lenses a few day, ago. It had a bit of fungus which I managed to get rid of, and it seems a really good lens. I am taking it up to the lakes today, so hopefully the weather will allow me to try it out properly!

I have just recently got one of these lenses, and it is excellent.
I just have to get used to push-pull zooming again (stop moving it when taking the pic!)
