sd card question.

hi all.

Looking to get a couple of new sd cards, to replace two that have been through the washing machine!!

ive never given them much thought before, but anyone recommend one brand or write speed over another?

with the k3 having two slots, I was thinking along the lines of 8gb for jpeg in one, and a 16gb for raw in the other. or a 16 and a 32?

any thoughts.

I was the same, never really thought much about which cards I brought until I got my K5IIs and brought a Sansdisk Extreme card. The speed difference is noticeable.

I now mainly Sandisk Extreme, Extreme Pro or Ultra. I also have some Lexar Premium cards which are a little slower but mainly stay with my cameras as a backup (or when I forget to put a card back in)

The Lexar and Sandisk cards are both classed as class 10 yet the Lexars are 45mb/s and the Sandisks are 95mb/s

I to use mainly Sandisk 95mbs cards both 16GB and 32GB, not had any problems on a K5 iis and they write at a decent speed when shooting action, off my head, there around the £22 mark and you should get a voucher for some Sandisk recovery software which is worthwhile hanging on to somewhere safe, its helped me once of twice recover something deleted accidently.

Stay away from Lexar. Ive had 2 and both had issues with corrupting files and PCs/cameras struggling to read them and a friends using them in a Nikon D&%) has just had his 2nd lexar card go.

I use transecend 32gb 600x with no issues so far in my K-3 and have used various San disks with no complaints

I agree with Algernon, Samsung are great cards, I have 8 of them at the moment and have never had trouble with any of them.

Have used 7daysshop cards in the k3 and seems to be no difference using sandisk except the price

I'm very much a sandisk extreme / ultra kind of guy and have a couple of lexars. I think memory cards are too important to go for budget brands.

I'm in the same boat.

Thing is these days it's all really cheap too. Pentax doesn't do anything in the high quality video/4k realm, so you don't need the fastest sustained transfer cards for Pentax cameras either. My personal feel is that there's not enough to be saved by taking a budget route, given the main players aren't that much more expensive now.

Anyway, I use PNY cards from WHSmith. (convenient and cheaper than PC World) even though PoNY is rhyming slang for, well, you know...

Only ever had trouble with the little (2G) Panasonic card in my Canon A1200.

No major video changes since the K-30, which took two steps forward with full manual control, and then 1 step (at least) back by removing the sensor stabilisation.
NOTHING of significant note since then, and certainly nothing given back to existing customers via means of firmware update to improve things either.

Me too. I have just returned my Lexar professional SDHC 32GB 400x speed card after I decided the occassional corrupted image wasn't acceptable.
