Hopefully just the filter, as they should be "replaceable". (I believe places will replace them with IR filters for IR photos. So repair should also be possible). Although likely less than replacing the camera or the whole sensor assembly, I would guess the repair is not going to be "cheap".

How did the lens fair : I guess you haven't been able to try it either. I would be worried about the SDM motor being damaged in some way.
My 50-135 fell from a top bunk and landed on a carpeted floor and it came up ok except for a broken cap.
I hope you were insured.

yes i am making a claim on the home insurance its still going to cost me £125 though.

Well if you are claiming for both the camera and lens you may do ok out of it depending on if they let you keep the broken items.yes i am making a claim on the home insurance its still going to cost me £125 though.
If they do then you should get your £125 back without much trouble.

i think the worst thing that can happen is for them to send the 50-135 of to pentax for repair who knows how long that will be
i'm not so worried about the k10 as i bought a k20 with aswell on saturday, wich is great by the way

I'm a bit confused here!..........you say your 50/135 was knocked off the table!.........was your K10 attatched to it at the time?.......if not, how did you manage to scratch the sensor cover?..........

yes the 50-135 was attatched when it left the table but after it hit the floor it was'nt.
i did think it might of just poped of the bayonet but no such luck

It could be that the sensor filter is just marked rather than scratched. A firm cleaning will get it off if so.

Bad luck indeed that it should fall, the mirror went up, the shutter opened and and in a fraction of a second something should damage the sensor.

my new 50-135 got knocked of a table and has snaped the silver mounting ring of off the boby, and to top that some of the debris has managed to scratch the sensor on my k10.
does any one have a clue whether this is repairable, or if it is going to be a write off.
am i right in thinking there is a a protective layer over the sensor, maybe it can be replaced.
well i can hope
