scottevest: suitable photography jacket?

hi all,

i like to travel light, with a camera around the neck, and two primes in two pockets.

but i'm going on a trip when i really want to have my 200/2.8 with me (with hood). i have a suitable camera bag, but i wonder whether i can travel without it.

i don't like the look of the professional camera jackets—a casual looking jacket would be far prefereable. something lightweight would be nice, so i can use it in either the summer or the winter.

so i stumble around, and i can only find this: scottevest travel jacket.

does anyone have any experience with this jacket? does anyone have any alternative suggestions?

I know of a couple of people on a travel forum who have them, and the other versions of it, and swear by them.

I am not sure the pockets are suitable for carrying a lens around in though I guess it might fit in the water bottle pocket at a squeeze.

they do have a pocket designed for a water bottle, and that's where i was hoping i might be able to put my 200mm. but i'm guessing that a 500ml water bottle is close to the size of the 200mm (without hood), but the 200mm would be about 300g heavier than a typical water bottle.

i'm liking the look of the hoodie that they do as an alternative now. much more casual, and seems quite useable.

When I like to travel light, I use the multi pocketed waistcoat designs, super in summer and with a long sleeve jumper under in colder weather. There are very light versions and padded versions if you are a cold mortal, which I am not.
I can carry my 300mm plus my macro 100mm in my two different design waistcoat versions.
Guess it is what you are comfortable with.

I work for SCOTTEVEST and a lot of photographers use our jackets and vests. The pockets do get larger as the size of the garment gets larger. Some items have more pockets then others but a lot of our products are very popular among photographers! If you have any specific questions I would be more then happy to answer.
