Scotland Meet

I've been trying to think of a location......plenty places of interest,but nothing to keep us busy all day!....

Edinburgh and Fife area have a lot to see and photograph, it's also not too far up the road for most?

Edinburgh or St Andrews?

But nothing else!

Edinburgh, the Borders or Glasgow would be fairly easy for us North Easterners but Fife is getting a bit far to make a day of it.

I suppose you're right, it always surprises me how long it takes to get to St Andrews.

How about Pollok Country Park? link I have a vested interest, the entrance is just a few hundred yards from my house.

Hairy cooooooos, lots of ducks , heavy horses and of course the Burrell and Pollock House , not to mention other stuff as well

The park looks interesting. About 3 hours from here I think.

Looks good, but will some Glaswegian jobsworth come along and tell us we can't take photos on council property?

Edit: Actually the heavy horses are of interest. My daughter-in-law's mother rides a Clydesdale. DIL rides a Shire

Nah - it's a haven for photographers - I've tried my hand at the Warwick Vase and the Rodin in the Burrell - and they never said a thing .

I'll admit I've not taken the tripod with me - but as you all know I'm not best of friends with it .

Ken have you had the tripod there ?

I'm not sure what the current policy is, I may take the dog to the Burrell Collection for a walk tomorrow and I'll ask.

Previously when I've shot in Glasgow museums its just been the usual sensible stuff that lighting stands are further away from the object than the height of the stand but for amateur shoots I'm not sure. Flash will obviously be out.

Pollok House, a gift to the people of Glasgow by the Maxwell family, was sold to the National Trust for Scotland for a pound or something so a whole different set of rules will no doubt apply.

To sum up then, the park (think heavily wooded country estate) is in the middle of the city and very well served by public transport. It contains the remains of an iron age fort, the art collection of shipping magnate Sir William Burrell and late 18th century Pollok House (very nice but not on the scale of Harewood or Blenheim).

There is a cafeteria at the Burrell and a restaurant in Pollok House.

Plenty of parking and a mountain bike circuit.

It also contains Strathclyde Police Dog Training School which would need to be set up in advance if anyone was interested, it has Highland cattle and heavy horses and a river with a weir.

Some lovely bronze statues in the Burrell Lots of nice things in the Burrell [ William Burrell really enjoyed collecting things - it's a real hotch potch .

Pollock House is nice - sort of friendly , not enormous and over powering .

Can we do this before Christmas or do we need to wait until spring. Think if we can get even 3 or 4 confirmed for the first it will be a start.
