Guess I could email [email protected] and ask about collecting in person from the shop. It's easily in range from my present abode.

These people are back again, this time they have lifted content from Yorkshire Cameras and Digital Depot.

Yorkshire cameras website appears to have been taken down now.

I came quite close to ordering from this lot a few months ago. Ironically their prices are too cheap. I think I had a Pentax SMC FA 50mm 1.4 lined up for £185.00 new. I might not have gone to the trouble of googling them with the word "scam" if the lens had been £250 but may still have ordered it.

I'd like to thank them for re-installing the concept of "buyer beware" to my purchasing behavoir. Good work

Hi, sorry to drag up an old thread.

I was just googling my own business (which is called West Yorkshire Cameras) to see if it had any reviews, and I noticed this is the second result when you search "West Yorkshire Cameras reviews". I was wondering if you would be so kind as to alter the OP and specify that our business is not the same as the one which is mentioned - as obviously the names are very similar and I don't want potential customers mixing them up and getting the wrong message. If you'll take the time to view our site, you will see that it is certainly legitimate and not associated in any way with "Yorkshire Cameras".

I suppose you could even remove or archive the thread as the site seems long gone, at least it won't load for me

Every so often the rip off firm that the original post refered to appear and we need to be aware of this, unfortunately when they do pop up, as in the first post, they try conning people into believing that they're a legit firm.

In this case they were trading on an existing companies (very good) reputation.

Fortunately the site is now no more, where as West Yorkshire Cameras is a legit site and worth a visit.

It may be legitimate but there is no mention of the registered company address and only a mobile telephone number.

Not the sort of place I would do business.

To be fair they do say they are a new business with a stall on a market

Most Councils have similar tester systems for new enterprises. Big enterprises must start small somewhere. Morrisons started as a cheese stall in a Bradford market!

Obviously each buyer should judge a seller themselves.

If you do a 'whois' search you'll find the domain is registered to Tom, 'the web ninja' on their about us page.

A scammer wouldn't be that daft surely and, when they have something that catches my eye I may just buy from them.

I wasn't having a go at these guys. I was just saying that I wouldn't buy from any site which didn't have a verifiable landline and address listed.

It was more a point that this thread started because of a website with suspect or unverifiable information, and that this one isn't much better.

Has anyone here actually met these people or been to their stall?

Don't get me wrong, I am not accusing these people of anything, but we should be aware of social engineering. It all works by building up trust and people go to a lot of effort to make things appear legitimate.

(But as I say, it's not a specific comment about this website.)

You're right. Someone in the UK selling online must give a valid address (not a PO box) and contact information (email & phone). They do the last two but I doubt a once a month market stall is a valid business address unless I've missed something somewhere. This is a requirement of the e-Commerce Regulations 2002 and was covered in one of the Watchdog Daily programs earlier this year.

I've no reason to doubt these are not reputable people but there is little yet to verify that they are.
