Scam Messages

I've recently joined Pentax User and was surprised to find a message for me. Turns out it was a scam email from the Ivory Coast offering me a great business opportunity.
This is the first time that I have recieved such an email through a closed site, such as Pentax User, does this often happen? If so I guess it's time to leave.

We don't very often get them on here just delate any in your PM box and if you need to report anything like that, click on report a problem bottom left corner, or send JohnRiley a PM about it anytime.

I've also recently joined Pentax User and have received the same scam email from the Ivory Coast.How can this happen ? It appears that security details and email addresses of members are not secure on ths site.
If this persists I will leave this club and have my details deleted ASAP.

Do you mean you got an email direct from the spammer or was it via PERSONAL MESSAGE?

This is not a closed site. Anyone can join and send personal messages. The sender does not have the recipient's email address when sending a personal message. The message is forwarded by Pentax User.

No it does not happen often. I can't rememember getting any spam messages myself, though I may have forgotten one or two.

Please don't go OTT with this the Pentax User site does stop all spam 99.5% of the time, your e-mail address and details are safe, the odd one that get's through just joins (like You) pick's a topic and sends a PM to one of the posters.

This has happened twice to me in all the time I have been here, so please enjoy the forum.

Sometimes people register and then post messages that are not appropriate. As soon as they are spotted they are stopped, but it is important that you let us know as they seem clever enough not to send copies to the Moderator Team.

When advising that spam is occuring, please ensure you mention the offending username so they can be dealt with.

this is turning funny really . I must have received a few, not sure, as whenever I see the subject and sometimes its still not clear I go to the content and the moment I realise its a scam e-mail my finger swiftly goes to the DEL button. Doesn't take much effort at all. And as I receive my mails on my Blackberry too when I see it there I do the same but instead of just delete I choose option to delete from server so it doesnt reach my Inbox in the PC when I open it.

I take reasonable precautions using softwares etc but you can't expect to never ever to get spam.

If these people had any sense they would be telling us we could get a K7, not a couple of million dollars. Don't they know us at all?

I'm another one they ignore. Can we start up our own scamming service so we don't feel left out?
