Hi friends,

Happened to see a guy with a Pentax DSLR (could not see the model) in Charing Cross Station, London today (28th July) at about 1120 a.m. Was this anyone from our PU family. I too was in a hurry so could not stop and chat....Anyway was nice to see someone holding a Pentax camera....Very hard to find sensible people.

Regards,

I saw one in the photo pit at Glastonbury last year and got really excited, unfortunately he was Japanese and couldn't speak English so I pointed out my k-5 and he smiled.

He was using a istd with an fa* 80-200mm drool drool...

Perhaps Pentax can issue some Pentax branded clothing so we are immediately recogniseable. By wearing the outfit you would consent to being bothered by other Pentax users.

A red and white bobble hat with Pentax on one of the stripes, a red and white striped long sleeved top, black framed glasses with Pentax lenses and a red and white striped monopod. [ taken from here ]

We'd at least stand out in a crowd......

I've just returned from a holiday in the Ardeche. When out canoeing with my 8 yr old daughter we stopped off at a barrage and I took the opportunity to take a couple of photos - sad to say I was using my wife's Lumix as I wasn't prepared to risk my K5 on the river (though that turned out to be overly cautious - no risk of capsizing on what was a very calm stretch of river).

A nice French lady who was nearby offered to take a photo of me and my daughter and when I offered in return to take some of her and her family I could scarcely contain my excitement when she handed over her K200d (my first Pentax DSLR). I explained that I was a Pentax user and previous K200d owner and I think she empathised with the Pentaxian spirit. Just a shame that I didn't have my K5 on me, would have been nice if she could have had a go on it rather than the Lumix!
Cheers, Adam

Thanks guys for your response. Maybe the person I saw is not aware of this forum. As Smeggy has pointed out, it is big news to see someone with a Pentax. I only see Nikon or Canon carriers....and it feels great to see Pentax lovers.

I was having a very pleasant day on Saturday. Saw a great Summer Panto 'Alice in Poundland' at lunch time, watched the cycling in a pub and whilst my wife was booking a restaurant table I bumped into some photographer chums and they were showing me toys old and new. So I have a Leica M3 in my hand and the others have very large FF Nikons when a Pentax user wanders by, I turned to him stupidly expecting some warm and mutual recognition...

Spotted one yesterday, crossed paths whilst exiting the Anderton boat lift buidling - didn't have time to stop as I need to catch up with my 8 year old and make sure he was ok

Also, whilst in Burry Port this year by the lighthouse one evening a gentleman from Cardiff area appeared behind me with a K20D, took a few shots of the sunset after a quick chat he was off again to take his better half to work.

It seems we may be multiplying in numbers
K10D, K5 plus plenty of clueless enthusiasm.

I've managed to spot one a most of the major events I've been to for photography this year:
One on the Knockhill BTCC grid yesterday (I didn't have a chance to talk to him) IIRC there were others at Snetterton, Croft & Brands Hatch.

Then there was a young fellow with a K200 at the Clacton airshow on Thursday (I Managed a brief chat before my family returned to drag me off)

Canikon users outnumber us at all these events, but I've seen more Pentaxes than Sonys...

Well I was definitely one of them at Snett. I only briefly spotted one other Pentax user in the crowded paddock area, but I was surprised at the number of Sony DSLRs as they are usually less abundant than us like you say. I did get approached by a friendly Canon user down at the inside of Nelson, who asked me what the best settings to use were, rather than sticking with green mode. I was quite taken aback given that he had been blasting away with what looked like several grand's worth of big white, fast, zoom tele. It was nice to have a chat though.

While here back in April, easter week IIRC, there were probably over 100 people showed up throughout the time I was there and I managed to spot no less than 3 fellow Pentaxians... I even let one of them use my tripod as a gesture of fellowship. I did offer the other two but they declined.
