I know what you mean about sticking with trusted brands, I tried for ages to find a SMEG camera, but with no success!!
I don't think there are any differences between the two cameras, branding, menus and button placement aside.
I can't speak for the 'forum', but I for one will welcome you onto the forum!
Heck, they haven't chased me away yet, and I don't own any Pentax kit at the moment!!

Welcome to the forum! There are already plenty of members who use Samsungs so you are most welcome here.
There are differences in the grips I believe, and the Samsung only offers Jpeg and DNG, no RAW.

DNG is raw isnt it?

DNG is RAW - you are correct.
The Pentax adds "PEF" RAW format as well - which is a compressed RAW. It only really means you get more shots per card - that's all.
Some reviews have indicated that the JPG images out of camera are better from the Samsung... who knows! They both take the same lenses, the same flash guns, and have nearly identical features. The only difference is in the molding - and the grips are consequently different shapes.
No one is really sure how the two companies shared the development. Certainly the K20D CMOS sensor was developed by Samsung.
Either way it's no problem being here The features and way-of-working are identical - so you can always ask and (generally ) get a sensible answer.

Yes it is. The difference is PEF which is Pentax's own format RAW and is compressed. The DNG format used is not compressed.DNG is raw isnt it?
I also believe that the processing to JPG is slightly different in the Samsung to the K10D. But for all purposes here, they are the same camera!

The RAW files are larger and the menus are different.
Is the shape of the right-hand grip the same?

Slightly off topic, people used to say years ago that you could not go wrong buying a Sony (no matter what it was).
But that was back in the days when Sony was a market innovator.
Now they have 'lost the plot' in most areas.

I'm looking for a Pentax fridge and cooker. The SMEG range cooker was replaced twice under warranty and has had £400 spent on post-warranty repairs since. At the moment the oven door wont close properly and two gas rings wont stay lit. The retro styled fridge was replaced three times under warranty and has now been consigned to the garage as a beer container. We replaced it with a Samsung - nearest thing to a Pentax fridge we could find

Lots of film bodies, a couple of digital ones, too many lenses (mainly older glass) and a Horseman LE 5x4.

They are basicly the same but Pentax has a very good service I believe.
I have no idea how the service of Samsung is but it's unlikely that they are better.
Pentax cameras also hold their value better than Samsung that is also a point worth to think about if you want to sell it over a while.
What's the price of the GX10 these days btw, they are very hard to find?
Maybe if you stretch your budget a bit you can pick up a Pentax K20D they are now £579 and you also get a £100 cashback on them.

off topic.
I've heared that Samsung doesn't really see breath in the DSLR market so they are going to stop producing them but they will continue making and developing sensors.
Can anyone confirm this, I can't find the page and I ain't so sure anymore if it's true.

Just wondered what the difference was between the Samsung GX10 and the Pentax K10d?
Everything in my house is Samsung (TV, DVD, Fridge, Freezer, Washing machine, Microwave etc etc) and really want to stick with the same brand again.
Would i be welcome on the forum due it being Samsung and not Pentax (even though they are united)
Cheers
Matt
