Safe trigger voltage

Is there a definitive answer to the safe trigger voltage debate ?

I'd like to play around with some portrait work but would have to use various combinations of old flashguns (Vivitar 285 and an old Centon) to try to achieve the right lighting effect but I'm wary of connecting anything that may fry the cameras electronics.
The camera is by the way a Samsung GX 1S - do I get drummed out of this forum for that ?

i'd be grateful for any help/advice.

No, you don't get drummed out, but you might have to do 100 lines "I must use a Pentax..."

Old flashguns can be hazardous so you should measure the voltage across the gun's flash contacts. Identical looking Vivitars can read anything from under 10V to 300V so models do change under the skin.

I use IR Triggers now, so no contact is necessary but of course the guns have to be able to act as slaves.

There is a website that lists trigger voltages, perhaps someone could remind us what it is?

I think this is the site you mean http://www.botzilla.com/photo/strobeVolts.html - lists trigger voltages for many flash guns, however what I really need to know is what voltage is safe for my camera?

I've seen a post on here which suggests that Pentax DSLRs are safe up to 300V - not sure that I want to test that theory with my camera though.

No, I wouldn't either. I'm not sure what the upper limit is, but personally I'd be happy up to 10V.
