re this KX/wide angle issue, interestingly there's a very similar thread just started over on Pentax Forums.

Feel free to stop by sometime soon and see if it's the same on my K10D.

Thanks ChrisA for the offer - but I need to spend some time first trying to find out if its just Operator Error - see if I can get a reproducable scenario that it won't focus properly in first, because it only seems to happen when I'm not expecting it!

Are you using a specific focus point or Auto (or 'Whole Scene', or whatever on earth the one that isn't a specific focus point is called )? This is one explanation (other than "it's the lens") for only your DA 12-24 having problems: with it being much wider than your other lenses, perhaps the AF system is struggling to determine what should be in focus?

Posted on other Pentax site this morning.

PENTAX K-5:
- 16 million pixels (SONY new sensor)
- ISO 25600
- 7 frames per sec
- 139,000 ($1625 )
- announcement on September 20
- Released in mid-October

PENTAX KR:
- 12 million pixels
- 6 frames per sec
- 10 color of body and 12 color grip, as the combination 120 colours
- 74,800 yen ($875)
- Released in mid-October

ISO 25600 eh?

Cool. that's two stops more than my K20D. if it gives the same performances at 3200 as I get from 800 on the K20D that's pretty cool indeed.

May not wonder about jumpin' ship to the Nikon D3 after all [ not that I could afford it anyway ]

I just did a quick test of the DA12-24 on my K-x and the AF seemed to work just about as well as any other lens.

I'm currently getting a current valuation on my Mum.

Mine went when I bought the 60-250mm.

Suppose I could ask the wife if we really need to keep our son.

If it is really available in October (which I doubt) then it will be my anniversary/birthday/Christmas present.
Lacking a Mum to sell that will have to be the solution.

I hope Pentax releases something with similar features....

And I certainly hope not. This is old tech. Pellicle cameras lose about one stop of light for the advantage of slightly faster shooting. Not worth it at all.

I hope Pentax don't go the same way, yet. I've not seen an EVF I'd be happy using instead of an optical viewfinder, but the day will come. I just don't think we're there yet, and from a usability point of view I think it would cripple the camera to an extent. I could be wrong though, will be interesting to see them.

I would however be handy for video ... better than trying to look at that ruddy LCD at arms length.

Oh absolutely, but although video would be a 'nice to have' for me, I'd rather the viewfinder was ideal for still photography.

for me, it'd be a great camera.
I shoot video and stills and have become fairly good at editing in final cut.
It's been a long road trying to get my editing skills up to a level where I'm satisfied.
as it sits, I feel there's room in my camera bag for one more camera, and have really been trying to find the right one......

right now I'm leaning towards something like this: link and a kmount adapter (they are available btw)
