That was my first reaction too. . Dare I say Ken, this looks more like a cabbage at first glance
What an extraordinary image. I'm amazed at how the absence of colour can fool the eye.
A careful look makes it clear that it's not a cabbage, but the rose has such a lot of dense petals that I really think it's not that obvious until you look.
Could we see the colour version? I'm assuming it's not green
(Actually, on second thoughts, how about a green version too... it will look even more like a cabbage and therefore be an amazing illusion.)
Sorry, I'm sure this wasn't the effect you intended . But I can't help the way I saw it!

It still looks like a cabbage, is this something you've put together in photoshop Ken? just to wind us all up
You said you'd used a 50mm with extension tube but the exif shows the focal length to be 35mm, I dont recal extension tubes changing the Focal length of my lenses in exif.
Do I smell a rat....or maybe a mouldy cabbage

I'm going to save the seeds and make a fortune with my new hybrid dwarf cabbage. Gardners Question Time, here I come.
This is my first shot, if you discount all the daft squirting about you do with a brand new camera, with the K20.
I noticed the 35mm thing in the EXIF data, but it was only when I remounted the lens and tube that I noticed the screen asking me to input the focal length which I must have missed the first time; it defaults to 35mm.
Tomorrow I will buy a cabbage and photograph them together but I suspect I will be accused of falsifying the evidence by digital means.

Interesting though about the focal length not showing up correctly, these are Jessops tubes with contacts and Mannesty's mod of scraping away the black paint to make an extra contact.
