I can personally recommend the SMCP-FA 100mm 1:2.8 Macro lens. It's stunning, if a little heavy.
Many here like the Sigma 105mm as well. But to me, size matters, which is why I bought the 180mm.
Mike-P has a D-FA version for sale right now.

Thanks Peter, I have been considering the Sigma 105 for a while now and just got beat on one on the bay a few weeks ago, the one that Mike-p has is a nice one but I'm afraid the spending has stopped for this year, but it won't be long till next year,

For bugs/creatures that might sting/bite/disappear, 100mm is about the minimum I would go for. The Tamron 90mm would be usable also. I think the 35mm and 50mm macros are just a bit too close for my liking, great for flowers and the like though.
