Retailer Advice

At the end of this month I'm in the market for the SMC Pentax-DA 12-24mm F4 ED AL. I have bought equipment over the counter at Clifton Cameras and by post from SRS, both faultless, but neither are the cheapest for this lens.

SRS were until around a week or so ago but have just increased it by around £25.00.

The three with the lowest price at present are: Park Cameras, ABC Digital and WEX (but with them it's a back order)

Has anyone had any experience of ordering online or by post with any of the these?

Hello and welcome Jim.

I've bought online from Park Cameras in the past and had no problems with them.

Thanks. Just have. Not much there and certainly not the lowest on what they have.

I've shopped in store at Park Cameras. Got very good service, especially as they knocked down the price of a 55-300 DA to that of a DA-L 'cos the advert they'd posted didn't make it clear it was the DA-L on 'special' at the time.

Almost all online sellers are good most of the time. What differentiates them is how they handle the situation when things go wrong.

Experience on this forum suggests that nobody does better in this respect than SRS, though in fairness I have never heard a bad word about Park either. I have bought from both.

I'm happy to buy a washing machine from Currys and other box-shifters, but when it comes to cameras and expensive lenses I tend to stick to SRS.

I had a bad experience with Pixmania some time ago – ordered a lens online which was listed as ‘in stock’ it wasn’t. They kept promising it would be in stock in the next few days each time I called(it kept showing as in stock on the web site).
This went on for several weeks and they had debited my card when I placed the order so when I finally lost patience and cancelled it took another 10 days (+ many more calls) before I was refunded. I finally ordered from SRS and it arrived the next day. It was about £10 more, but lesson learned – I have always ordered from SRS since then.

Thanks very much guys.

Roll on the 28th. If prices stay as they are it look's like Park Cameras

Just noticed this morning that SRS are the lowest. I hope they don't go back up in the next two weeks

If your preferred dealer's price becomes less favorable when you are ready to buy, you could try asking if they would be willing to match the cheapest price at that time.
