Replacing A Lost Hood

I've managed to lose the hood from my Pentax 16-45mm. (It'll be in a field somewhere near Over Haddon in the Peak District if anyone finds it). I was tad stunned to find that a replacement from SRS costs £55.(sic). There are much cheaper 67mm screw-in hoods available from Amazon and elsewhere but I'm wondering if this will cause vignetting, especially when used with filters. Has anyone had any experience of these screw-ins? Thanks. Mike

Did your hood have one of those little pull-out sections so that you can turn a circular polariser? That could account for the price.
How about a rubber hood. If you get vignetting, then you could just cut round back of the rim to shorten the hood.

Thanks Geoff. Yes it does have the pull out, which is very handy. Rubber hoods do appear to be quite cheap so maybe I'll try that first.

Sir, wide angle collapsible rubber hoods are available here in Bangalore for Rs. 225 (US $ 5). Please do not buy the standard hood. I also bought a screw on flower hood for almost the same price and works just as fine as the original stuff.
I find the rubber hood also protects my camera and lens from mild bangs / hits. Also the camera can be stored in the bag without removing the hood from the camera as it collapses.
There is a site that allows you to print flower hoods for most Pentax DA lenses - gratis. Print it out. Then take a piece of light black foam rubber sheet and use the print out as a template on the rubber. Cut it out. Attach it to your lens - please use ingenuity here for attaching it to your lens - say a step up/down ring. As a master mechanic I can form the original bayonet type attachment for my lens.

I lost a hood and, like you, was astonished at the replacement cost.

Mine was for an 18-55 and in the end bought a lens plus hood on eBay for less than the cost of a Pentax hood, then resold the lens at a very small profit.

Obviously this wont happen with the 16-45.

As an interim measure I bought a screw on petal hood, it caused vignetting with a filter attached. Any rubber hood will only be effective at 16mm so pretty hopeless IMO.

There are some Chinese eBayers selling repro Pentax hoods that some people around here seem quite pleased with.
