Replacement focusing screen for K-m

Morning all,

Have unfortunately got a scratch on my focusing screen of my K-m.

Haven't got a clue how I did it, always very careful when changing lenses, etc.

Just wondered if anyone knows the best place to source a replacement. Not looking for anything other than a genuine Pentax direct replacement.

My first call would be SRS

SRS it is then.

You might find it cheaper elsewhere if you discover the model number of the screen. Sorry I don't know what that is for the K-m.

SRS are cheap for cameras and lenses, but not all parts & accessories.

The code on the focusing screen tab is L90.

I've seen various cheap screens through Ebay and the like.

There's obviously KatzEye and similar for split image screens, but really just wanted a direct replacement.

Then just buy a direct replacement. It won't be a fortune and it will be the correct part. And you'll probably be happier knowing that your camera is returned to original specification.

That's what I plan to do.

I was just looking for some guidance as to where.

Spoke directly to Pentax but they seem to be passing me from one person to the next.

I've dropped an e-mail to SRS so I'll see what they come back with.

Before changing anything are you sure it's a scratch and not a hair that's got stuck? The two things can look very similar when looking through the viewfinder.

L90 doesn't seem to be commonly available, so SRS might be your best bet after all... if it is a scratch on it rather than a hair!

Taken it out, had a look, definately a hair unfortunately.

I guess I could just leave it there and live with it, although I'm pretty sure that my OCD won't like it one bit!

Bit of careful puffing holding the camera throat downwards (obviously avoiding touching anything)? Is the K-m screen easily removeable like the K20D's? If it uses the same system (with the Pentax tweezers) I can lend you some of the special tweezers and you could take it out, puff it, and replace it.

I've had a quick look now and it is easy enough to take out. Unclip the frame that holds it and move it upwards (or downwards depending on your point of view!), then the screen can just be taken out. There is a removable metal shim beneath it that isn't secured down but as long as I leave it be it shouldn't be a problem.

Just spoke to Pentax, SRS gave me a direct number to the correct department, and the screen will only be £15 delivered! Far less than I was expecting.
