remote control K20D

An easy question Which remote for the K20D?
I suppose cable is a better connection but help in deciding still needed and where from??

Have a cheapy wired one off ebay for about £8, works fine, can lock for bulb mode & half press for focus etc.

Also have the Pentax IR remote, which is great as it is always with me, stored, in the grip. Very useful

I have a 'cheapo' wired one and a 'cheapo' IR one, both bought from the Pentax User shop, when the genuine Pentax versions were unavailable.

They both work fine and being so cheap, I would not be too upset if I mislaid one - easy to do since they are so small.

I have a cheap wired one from eBay too - works just fine and I use it a lot. The wireless one has the advantage of taking up less space in the camera bag but the wired one doesn't need batteries and can be used around corners (and over walls etc). Really comes down to personal choice...

Ive found a couple of wired remotes on ebay which Im going to try

The wireless one for me is best if I'm doing some quick macro shots where I need to wait for a lull in the breeze, just whip it out of the grip, and wait for a still moment. If there's no breeze, I'll tend to use the 2 second timer with mirror-up.

I tried to use it the other week in the garden when I was remotely shooting birds coming to a nest box. Frustratingly the wireless remote seems to switch itself off after about 10 minutes, so when the bird arrives in the perfect spot, you press the button and nothing happens. Haven't found out how to disable this 'feature', but to be honest I will use the cabled remote in this situation normally. I just couldn't be bothered (initially) to go back into the house to get it.

Dan, I think it has to do with the auto shut off feature of the camera. The wired one can bring it out of 'sleep' mode, the IR one can't. (Sure I read that somewhere!)

Well, I thought that, but I think that even when I switched the camera to never go to sleep, it still did it. I'll have another go at some point.

Hi to one and all...
I've been using a IR remote on the K10D for garden pics of birds.......and I've been getting the same problem......the camera turns off the remote feature after about 5minutes.....
I use the camera via the mains.....and turn the auto switch off to "off"


Come on Pentax....is there any Fireware updates we can load up to stop this from hapening??

Other than that people, the Wildlife shop make a release (both cable and IR in one) for the Pentax......this will pug into the Cable remote area, and it uses radio waves, so the camera can be round corners etc...

I recently bought, and am pleased with, a radio remote control.
