Remote control F

I've been looking everywhere to try and get hold of a remote control F, but I haven't been able to find one. It's even out of stock on the Pentax website.

Does anyone know whether they're still being made, or even better; where I might be able to get one?

This seems to come up every week almost! Ebay is your friend...

There are plenty of perfectly decent clones available from the usual Hong Kong Ebay sellers. I paid about £5 for mine and it works perfectly, decent range and feels solid enough.

Don't be tempted by the "loads of buttons" ones, most of the keys won't work on a DSLR (it's a standard remote they sell with different codes for different devices) and it'll just be a bulky confusing nuisance. The one in the link above is pretty much identical to the original Pentax, with a single button to release the shutter.

SRS have them listed, no surprises there...

Thanks for the quick replies!

I guess the 3rd party ones will be perfectly good then, after reading that K20D remote thread you linked to I'm leaning towards this one at the moment. It should work fine with a K-7 shouldn't it?

Yes, that's good advice, I'm not bothered about any extra buttons, one is fine for me.

I did email SRS, but they don't have any in stock and weren't sure when they'd get some back in.

Going on your advice I think I'll try and get a 3rd party one instead. I suppose most universal infra-red remotes should work.

Do infrared remote controls support the half-press for autofocus control?

I use a wired remote control myself, which has the half-press function, and in addition can be locked mechanically for long exposures. Very handy, cheap, no batteries, and works from any position around the camera.
Best regards

You can set the camera to autofocus before it fires the shutter or not. K-7 p140. (shooting with remote control) I think I could do this with the GX10 as well.
Lurking is shirking.!

Got the Seculine Twin1 R3 universal remote from SRS in the end (link), works a treat. Just waiting for my ND400 now.

Thanks for all the advice, I appreciate it!
