Rechargeable batteries

I have a Pentax Optio 230 camera which had a CR-V3 lithium battery in originally which lasted for quite a long time. I replaced with 2 AA batteries which do not seem to last 5 minutes. Can I use rechargeable batteries in the camera as I seem to recall reading somewhere not to use rechargeable.

The best option seems to be to use AA NiMH rechargeables, preferably 2300 mAh. Charge them fully before use, use them until fully used up, and remember that the full battery capacity will only be reached after a few recharging cycles. This seems trouble free, for each camera we have 2 sets of 4 batteries and we rotate their use accordingly. Batteries have never been a problem, but they must be used according to the instructions for best results.
Best regards, John
