Anyone in this forum know if/when the *istD RAW files will be supported by Photoshop?
Also are there any other applications that support them? (either natively or with a plug in)

I understand that the new Photoshop CS will handle RAW files without the need of additional software. Earlier versions will need conversion software.

Hi Andrew and John,

Currently, Photoshop CS does not support Pentax RAW files. However, it is rumored that a plug-in will soon be available for Pentax and other currently unsupported formats.

The Pentax PhotoLAB software provides some basic RAW adjustment and conversion albeit very simple and limited compared to the complexity and power of PS CS RAW utility.

In the meantime while we wait for the PS CS plug-in to come in, there is another converter out there (from a Japanese site) which provides better RAW convertion output which IMO, is even better than Canon's and PEntax's converters!!!. The interface is only so so... some say worse than Pentax's but it's the TIFF/JPEG image quality that gave it its strength.

Download GENZO here:

I really don't know why they (Japanese site) still chose to use LHA to zip their files. The last time I heard of this zip utility is some 10 years ago during my MS-DOS days So get ready to have LHA.EXE or other Zip applications that can read LZH files!

Cheers!

Hi Shotgun,

Many thanks for the link
Regarding LHA - yes, it's still around and in use. (Some of the non .ZIP compression formats are either better compression, or generally more readily available in GNU/GPL and Linux

Try this link for a nice compression tool that supports pretty much everything for free:

(and there are others out there too)

Enjoy

Regarding the Genzo conversion software, can someone explain how to actually convert RAW files? I was able to successfully unzip the file with Ultimate Zip, I can preview PEF files, but the actual conversion is eluding me. Thanks!
