I'm thinking of installing Linux Ubutu on a home pc and was just checking if any of the RAW convertors (such as SilkyPix) will work with it.
Anyone any experience of using a Linux machine for photo manipulation/editing
Cheers

Hi donut,
A great combo is Ubuntu 7.10 with Bibble PRO. I use that myself and with several plug inn's from Sean Puckett: www.nexi.com you can modify Bibble completely to your needs. And the latest edition of Gimp even has a heal tool.
As in Photoshop.
Happy post processing.

Best regards,
Martin

There are various RAW softwares that you can use in Ubuntu. I will list them when I have my laptop next in use.

Thanks all. Very new to Linus/Ubuntu. Impressed so far but not quite as easy and transparent and Windows XP but much much faster.
Any good "idiots guides" available for Linus especially Ubuntu. Sorry to get off the photography track - may be I should post this somewhere else?

Raw and Linux and Pentax Pef

Ufraw + Gimp works super and also I see Digikam also works pretty good. I am using the first combination when I do editing on Linux.

I wouldn't hesitate about recommending Ubuntu. There is a book out also Ububtu Hacks, I am learning a lot from that and the official Ubuntu book.
