I agree with you on the 55-300. It's a cracking lens for the price. Lightweight too. I very much like number 1 - good compo/pose and nice to catch him with a bug in his bill. I like the way the pink pops in number 8 as well - did you use a little flash on that one? Nice set

Technically you are probably right Alan, but sometimes its about the picture not necessarily the quality of the picture. I certainly won't be entering any of these into any competitions but I think they are nice to look at, which is after all what a picture is for.
