I thought they were pretty rain resistant although driving rain would seep through in time I am sure. I stood mine on snow and no damp got in at all.
Otherwsie how about a bin liner?

I just read the specs (properly) and these bags are not advertised as waterproof. They do state that the zippers are water resistant though.
Even when I carried a Lowepro Mini-Trekker AW (All Weather) which has a waterproof cover, I also carried a few bin liners just in case.
Long term answer, move to Spain, it doesn't rain here (much)
Another suggestion if you go out in the wilds and need to protect yourself and your gear from the rain, get hold of a new, or ex-army poncho. It'll keep you and your gear dry.

Best bet is buy a rucksac cover...that's what I use, I've hiked in pouring rain using one without my rucksac getting wet - should be more than good enough to keep the camera gear dry, you can buy them from pretty much all outdoor/hiking shops & they cost around £10

I was in Scotland last year and it was not rain that was the problem for me but the cold humid air condensing on everything! Then the horizontal rain on top of that! I didn't open the waterproof compartment. The upper part of the bag had a raincover on it and was soaked through as it only prevented the rain getting through on the back.

For the record I have the same Tamrac Adventure 7 backpack......must admit I never use it when out on a days hiking, I use a "normal" hiking rucksac & put my camera gear in a smaller camera bag inside that. My "normal" rucksac has an internal waterproof liner + the rucksac cover.
I mainly use the Adventure 7 when out sightseeing etc
