Ragwort

A few pictures of some Ragwort in the field at the back of our house. A very common weed but very photogenic. Taken with my recently acquired FA100







I think this is a solider beetle, the colour goes rather well with the yellow!

I like the composition of that first one

Also highly poisonous and a major killer of horses and ponies. If you could dig it up and burn it after taking the photo you would be doing everyone a favour, though we are fighting a losing battle with it in Norfolk.

You also, very often find black/yellow caterpillars and what I beleive are Cinabar Moths on/near these plants. Also very photogenic.


A friend of mine who runs a small farm has recently been fined by his local council for having it growing on his land (a small patch just inside the hedge). Ironic as the grass verge bordering the road on the other side of the hedge is rampant with the stuff - and this is the same councils responsibility.

Seems to be a lot around our way too.

I did know it's poisonous to cattle and horses but this field is used for arable. Perhaps that is the reason there is more about, less farmland used for animals.
