Quite I.....

Quite Interesting, Quite Irresistable, Quite Inspiring.....well it was only a matter if time and the Q with 8.5mm and 5-15mm lenses is ordered and awaited.

There will now be a Quiet Interval whilst i receive the kit, make some images and then let you know how it's going.

I said that to Chris when I ordered the Q. I shall try and resist, but we'll see what I can earn first. If nobody saves me and sends me one to test I shall remain very curious as to how good it is. And insatiable curiosity is often what drives things. I have to try them for myself if I possibly can.

Within reason.....there is unfortunately only so much juggling of costs that can happen.

Good grief, whatever next?

I will admit to having an eye out for a K adapter though. It might be very nice to pop my 55-300mm lens on the Q. 275-1500mm?

My main reason for looking at the Q! And not much differnt in price from a Sigma 150-500!

The Q Twin Kit arrived today, so many thanks to Chris at SRS for very prompt delivery, as usual. Hopefully our friends who are going to Las vegas tomorrow will also be unpacking their kit too. We all chose Classic Black.

Initial impressions are: well packed and beautifully made kit. The lenses are compact but the zoom does of course extend far to the front of the camera. Everything works slickly and it's nice that the mode dial is firm but not too stiff. It won't accidentally shift from the required setting.

Pentax still provide a proper charger, which is brilliant. Some other makes, such as Olympus, only fix us up with a USB lead and mains connection, so the battery has to be charged in camera. With Pentax we can more easily alternate batteries using the charger, which is much more efficient.

There is a quick start guide, but the manual is on CD. This is a poor way to present a manual and I would much prefer a printed copy.

I'm not sure when I'll get to posting some images as we're still dealing with my Mum haviong been quite ill, but as soon as possible we'll see what the Q can do.

I do Quite fancy a Q with the fisheye and standard lens. Especially the silver edition, but the black is also nice.

I got one a couple of weeks back, just the standard prime version. I really have enjoyed using it every day. It fits in my coat pocket, and I put a wrist strap on it rather than a shoulder strap, which seems to suit it better; it seems less awkward.. I was worried I was throwing £320 quid at an expensive compact, but I must say it's definitely a much better functioning camera than any compact I have used and owned. In comparison to my other cameras, the Image quality is poorer than my Olympus E-PM1 at higher ISO, and it's about a million miles away from the K-5, but that was expected, but all the results have been very reasonable, and the camera is a pleasure to use. I'm sure you will have a lot of fun with this little gem of a camera John.

Now I've sorted out some of the logistics of using the Q. I have a pouch, meant for something entirely different, that fits the camera plus zoom perfectly, no wasted space, and it now fits in my jacket pocket. The smaller standard lens can happily go in a pocket when needed.

I used the Q on a tripod earlier to do a couple of images for Classified Ads. One huge advantage was immediately obvious compared with the X90. It is possible to remove and replace both battery and SD card without removing the camera from the tripod.

Just details, but it's important to get the workflow right.
