Just wondering if someone can help me with this ME Super SE i recently picked up as part of a job lot. I was going to relist it on E-bay but have since fallen in love with it and decided to keep it.

My question is when i did a bit of research on it i discovered it is a special edition. (Hence the SE suffix) Well so i thought, But the special edition is suppose to have brown leather not the black this one came with
So have i got it wrong and the SE does not stand for special edition
Someone please enlighten me Thanks

Hi Clarky,

According to Bojidar Dimitrov's site, which is the best place to go for info on any K-mount equipment:

The "SE" in the ME Super SE body stands for "special edition." However, the only known difference is that the focusing screen of the SE body is diagonally split, and that of the non-SE body horizontally-split.

I believe there was a brown version of the SE in a similar manner to the K1000 SE which at different times was available either in black or brown.

I had an ME Super SE which was stolen many years ago. jps is correct in that the only difference was the diagonally split focus screen and 'SE' on the front. It came with a black case. Bl**dy good camera!

Just been doing some more digging on Bojidar Dimitrov's K-mount page, and the Special Edition of the ME (rather than the ME Super) came in silver & brown - maybe this is where the confusion lies?

Clarky,

Looks like it came with the 1:7 lens (a gem) vs the more standard 1:8.

In my humble humble, you've got a great little package there.

Enjoy.

Both the M and the M versions were 1.7s. The only 1.8 in K mount was the original one which was sold with the K series cameras and was the K mount version of the Super Takumar.

I decided to have a bit more of a dig on this ME subject and found this quote

Quote:
The Pentax ME Super existed in chrome or black finish, and a limited edition called ME Super SE had a brown leather covering with the chrome finish.

at this site

So it was the limited edition that came out with the brown leather not the special edition as such

I was once tempted by a special edition Minolta.
It was a Dynax 8000i c/w flashgun and zoom lens (28-105, I think), all in a creamy-champagne type colour.
It was available at a very reasonable second-hand price, for what was one of the best/most sophisticated cameras available at the time.

I didn't go for it a) because I already had some Pentax kit and b) because I couldn't decide whether the outfit looked really cool or slightly ghastly

I imagine it must cost a fortune to produce radically different limited edition models but of course, many models in the 70s and 80s were offered in a choice of black or chrome and brown leather was quite common too.
Die my dear doctor, that's the last thing I shall do!

The LX2000 had a brown finish as well. I must admit I quite like them but if you have seen the camera gallery on my website, you might understand.
