Yes, quite impressive, now can I convince the wife? I don't think so, she thinks I spend too much already on equipment!

Just to sour the atmosphere a little - isn't it a bit of a shame that the 8.5mm 'standard' lens has such a degree of distortion that it requires in-camera correction though?

It's the way it's going though. Probably it means that a wider aperture and/or closer focusing lens can be made than would otherwise be technically possible.

I would turn the feature off if I wanted barrel distortion at the edge of a wide angle shot. Or use the fisheye lens!

Maybe true but a standard prime, you'd think, would be easy enough to make without distortion.
