Hi girls and guys, well I have been in India 2 weeks now and the Samsung NC20 netbook I purchased is working good, though the 10" screen is kinda limiting!
I did say I wd try to resist to do much editing but just load them up and store on disc and HD. But it is hard, especially at nighttime and it is quite cold here now 5 degrees at night, not to open up a few images and play.

Not seeing them on a normal size screen I thought I would post up this one I did tonight, for some honest c & c?

Hello stranger

I love the funky angle on this picture - looks like it was taken in the middle of an earthquake! Lots of really nice tones in the masonry too - well spotted.

Thanx Hefty, good to hear tones are good, the whole place was a bit shaky TBH not all my framing!

I like it, reminds me of my youth and staggering up the road after a session in the pub, when everything lent at funny angles.

My instant reaction when I could only see the top third of the photo was: 'why isn't it square to the frame?' Then I scrolled down and realised that nothing is square to anything else.

I really like the shot and the conversion. Just spent a while looking at it to think of some honest C&C but the only suggestion is to perhaps crop a slither from the left hand edge to get rid of some of the halved odds and sods.

Glad the trip is going well.

Best wishes, K.

Lots of film bodies, a couple of digital ones, too many lenses (mainly older glass) and a Horseman LE 5x4.

Nice juxtaposition, Lilly!

The cold actually sounds nice. Steaming hot (as ever), not so far away, here in Colombo.

Hi Kris, Thanks, I did actually try what you suggest but what happenned was, was! I had to trim off top or bottom as well to keep the square format, which I preferred. But I will do another and compare!

Just a quick and quite severe 'rotate canvas' followed by a crop. Does the building look better straight with the woman now walking downhill or perhaps you think the original shot was far more idiosyncratic and charming?
Best wishes for the rest of your trip, David.
PS: Love ther black and white conversion.

I liked it more with the wonky building.

It seems to have lost something in the straightening .

It's a picture now , yes a charming one , but it doesn't have the wow factor that the first one had

I think those messy sides holds it together, tidying an image up too much loses some reality and documentary feel about what I was trying to convey.
The way I tilted the lens at an angle was automatic, as some of you know I tend to do, I think it gives it drama as well.

Thamks David, Interesting though isn't it how important cropping & framing can make or break an image?

I agree that the original is far more interesting than my straightened up effort but I can just imagine what a camera club competition judge would say about the leaning version. Also my newspaper training tells me that an editor would come down hard on any picture editor or sub editor who let it get into the paper looking like that.
