PSE6 won't read my PEF's!

You could convert them to DNG files using the standalone Adobe Camera RAW programme . PSE will be able to open a DNG file as long as it really isn't corrupt.
If you transferred your images using a card reader, perhaps attach the USBcable to your camera and transfer them that way.

I have this happen occassionally. Somehow the little attached viwer file doesn't get created when you load the files from the camera to computer. Interference from other software running on the computer. Open the files individually within the PSE editor rather than PSE organiser and they are fixed.

Thanks bb2 - I tried that and it worked. This morning I was able to successfully import the files into the organiser. Doing each one individually from a full 8 gig card would have been too much for my poor jet lagged brain.

Luckily it worked out, this is the horror for every photographer when you open your card on the PC and it doesn't work...Thanks bb2 - I tried that and it worked. That's why I bought an image tank to ease my mind.. It is not because of the fact that I don't have enough storage but I want a backup copy as well.

Gwyn, not sure what camera you have but this is one of the reasons that my K200D is set to save in DNG rather than PEF when shooting in raw - I figure that Adobe will always support DNG (they created it as a "vendor independent" raw format) whereas support for PEF may not be guaranteed in the future

If four cards were OK and the fifth was not, the issue was not with the file format.

Irfanview can see the photos, but I really need them in PSE as that is what I use for RAW conversion etc. I don't want to learn a new converter for these photos so please don't suggest I try Silkypix or whatever. Any other suggestions are most welcome.
