Having tried out various PP software I have settled on Silkypix 3.0 and PSE 7.

Usually I can find my way around programs, but PSE7 is so feature rich that I feel I should admit defeat and RTM.

I have found the ---for Dummies books good in the past, but does anyone have any recommendations?

I purchased the Dummies All-In-One for PSE 7 which I find excellent for me being a dummy on editing. It explains each step clearly in detail. I consider it is better for the beginner than the Adobe classroom in the book that I had for my PSE 3.

I only downside of the dummies books are that you cannot download the examples shown in the book to work through.

I vote for The Missing Manual, an excellent book.
Best regards, John
