Projector for digital cameras?

One thing I miss about having a digital camera is the ability to have a slide show.

Is there a LCD projector on the market that can read the camera's CompactFlash card and so bypass the need for a computer. I know that there are printers on the market that print direct from a card. Why not similar technology for a projector?

Also, if I bought a projector (and used it with a computer, if necessary), what resolution would be the minimum to come anywhere near the picture quality of a projected 35mm slide at a projection distance of 10 to 15ft?

What other specification items should I be concerned about?

Don't know of anything to fill your need, but have you checked out the price of replacement bulbs?

IMHO, the DLP technology projectors are far superior. Rather than using LCD and shining through that, the DLP is a semiconductor array of tiny mirrors that reflects the light. There are no visible pixels on screen, so it looks just like a smooth canvas.

InFocus is the main manufacturer of such projectors. I've seen an XGA version running on an 8x6 foot screen. Beautiful But pricy The DLP projectors can also be very bright (InFocus do up to 4500 ANSI Lumens )

I know that Dell have DLP projectors too. (The chips are made by Texas Instruments.)

XGA is 1024x768 pixels, and is the highest they go at the moment. The Dell 3200MP costs around £1200.

BTW, DVDs look fantastic on these too

Nearly forgot... bulbs are mega expensive, like £250 - £350 each!! So any deal you get with a spare bulb is worth a lot!

We use a variety of projectors at work. whilst they are normally used with a PC or laptop, most will also take a smart media card which can be programed to run a powerpoint show. The trouble with using a CF card straight from the camera would be the actual control. Running them via a laptop with any of the picture browsers or powerpoint would look alot more professional. As to which one to use, I'll leave that to the experts. I have to use what's supplied.

We use a Sony digital projector at ADAPS, connected to the club's laptop. To make a decent slide show I think you really do need to design it properly in the computer - without this control could you even change the orientation of the pictures?

Presentations can look pretty impressive when projected, but the red component in the projected images is weak compared to the on screen image so the colour balance does change.

The result is nowhere near the standard of a 35mm projected transparency.

The last line of the last response was the most telling. If the quality is way below a 35mm slide .... then I could spent £1,000+ and still be disappointed.
