I'm not about to pay out for a remote control thingie for my Optio S, since it would get almost no use, but has anyone successfully managed to use a Palm PDA running Omniremote to fire off the Optio S's shutter?

cheers

Andy,

Here are a couple of links that might prove interesting:

Sorry, I couldn't find any concrete information. You might find the Optio remote may not use IrDA. I would guess the only way to get it sorted is to find some kind soul who will either lend you the remote, or zap it into a Palm and send you the recorded codes.

It's a nice idea... the only other people that know loads about infra red remote control are OneForAll. You can phone them and request codes for their controllers. However, that's mostly for domestic audio and video equipment.

If I find anything further, I'll post the info....

I have a Pentax efina T with a Pentax remote.

I also have a ZeonTech Universal remote control which has an IR receiver that it uses to "learn" from other remote controls.
- It is designed for TV/Video/etc, but works fine on the camera.

Since this works I would guess that there's nothing special about the Pentax remotes, so your PDA will probably do the job if you can get a remote, or the code (not sure how that would work though).

One of the members of the myOptioS group has succesfully done this using NoviiRemote (http://www.novii.tv/products/noviir/) for Palm. Please visit the group below and search for message 267, alternatively if you are a member click the link below.

I'd love to set up my One For All remote to do it, too.

Hope that helps,
matt
