Private property...but still! A dad photographing his daughter!! Come on!!

They asked him to delete the photos..erm "Are you sure you want to instruct me to commit a criminal act?". If it isn't destruction of evidence, then there can't have been an offence in the first place.
Getting there! Thanks to you guys

I agree with Ted, to suggest deleting the images is a no-no for several reasons, the main one being loss of vital evidence should the photographer turn out to be a real terrorist.
Its also interesting that someone with a mobile phone was challenged, its usually those with DSLRs who suffer this nonsense.
However many shopping malls, which are privately owned, have a no photography rule, and they are within the law to enforce this.
One of the largest is the MetroCentre on Tyneside. There you can take photos providing you make yourself known to the information desk who get security to issue you with a permit.

I do wish one of these security guards would get charged with wasting police time when these kind of incidences occur. If the guard is going to enforce shopping centre rules then all he had to do was ask the person to stop taking photos.

On another note I guess it must be a terrible place to work for if the ice cream seller didn't want her photo taken at work ))

The facebook page has some funny comments though...

How within the law are they able to enforce their own rules, as far as I can see their only options are to tell the person to stop or ask them to leave their property, that's it. If the person refuses to do either then the police should be called to have the person removed from their property, those are their only options.

I'm in that shopping centre about once a week and I've never seen any 'clear signs' saying photography wasn't allowed. It all sounds silly and heavy handed.

If it's private property then it's a civil case, so why involve the police no criminal act has taken place. You would have to be summond by the centre privately. Isn't that the case. As for the deletion of images, they are your property and data, and under the data protection act, surely only you have the rights to delete them?

Definitely silly, another mish mash story out of nothing from reportage extraordinaire BBC Scotland

Ice Cream staff complained as they though they were getting their pics taken - fair enough
We have a clear no photos policy / we don't mind you taking photos of your family - contradictory/confusing?

Can only pray the police were merely passing by and not called on purpose, what a waste of time

Probably make Reporting Scotland tonight not before their top story of a 2p price hike for a pie and Bovril at Ibrox and Parkhead.

This sort of thing gets very irritating

I've not been there for some time - so can't comment re the signing of the place.

I do wish that all this scare-mongering re photography would go away.

It's got totally ridiculous when you can't take photos of your own kids .

Wonder what folk would say about one I took some time ago - a wee kiddie playing on the Children's Computers in Apple Glasgow - only her back view but with full consent of her father as he was so taken with the suitability of the small table , bouncy ball seating etc to attract kiddies

I was stopped outside a local centre and told by security I couldn't take shot's on there land as it was privately owned by them, of course for security reasons...............this country has become a joke.

Quote - ' after a tense conversation a policeman was called . '

Father was not asked if he was the Child's father . He was told it was a Child Protection question .

Braehead are sticking to their story that photography is not permitted but say [ which contradicts this ] that they do not intend to stop families taking photos of a happy day out.

Yeah right .......
