Hi all had a great day today at work.

A colleague was selling a load of camera gear including the folowing items a fully working Pentax Program A with grip and a mint 50mm Pentax-a 1:1.7 lens

Also there was also a couple of other lenses in excellent condition a 28mm Miranda macro lens and a 70-210mm Miranda macro lens.

A Teleplus X2 converter in excellent condition.

Other items are panasonic Panasonic flash and a Pentax Tmount and some other mount which i'n not familiar with called a pentax K/M 49mm

I paid £20 for the lot.

I sort of know how to work the camera but if anyone could give me a few tips on using it i would very much appreciate as i got into photography in the digital age.

Nice capture!

You can start off by downloading the manual here (password is "Pentax" - case sensitive). One tip; while the film counter is set to "0" (or below) the shutter will only fire at 1/1000 seconds regardless of what it's set to. This isn't a fault, it's to wind the film onto the starting position quicker (it caught me out when I first handled one of these ). You'll find that and many other gems in the manual...

The K/M adapter you have is for reversing lenses directly onto the camera mount (assuming the lens has a 49mm thread in this case - like your new 50mm). This is for macro work with a standard lens and is quite useful.

Are the miranda lenses any good?

The camera looks great and £20 is a fantastic price.

Miranda lenses are of two types - the original Miranda optics were not at all bad and Miranda made some interesting cameras too. When they went bankrupt (early 1970s I think) Dixons bought up all the stock and offered everything at very low prices.

Later, and I think this is where your lenses date from, Dixons used the name as an "own brand" which was basically a low cost option. On film I would expect the lenses to be quite good but not exciting. On digital whi knows, but it would be interesting to find out.

I had a Miranda 28mm lens awhile back and got good results with it, don't know about the other lens.

As for the camera you got a good buy with all that kit.

Good result there, sold my Program A body for 25 quid on Ebay (kept the 50mm lens though)
